Our Story

Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato were already close friends when fate took a dramatic turn—they became unexpectedly lost at sea. Stranded in a small boat with no food and exposed to the elements, the two began to daydream about the perfect pizza. To keep their spirits alive and their hopes of survival strong, they made a pact: if they made it out alive, they would open a restaurant serving the best Italian pizza and pasta in the world.

They were rescued—and true to their word, they brought that dream to life. In 1995, they opened Serafina Fabulous Pizza on 79th Street on the Upper East Side of New York City. With its fresh ingredients, authentic recipes, and warm, lively ambiance, Serafina quickly won the hearts of diners and became a beloved local favorite. What started as a promise between friends has since grown into a global phenomenon. Today, the Serafina brand spans three continents, with celebrated locations across the U.S. and the world—each one staying true to the heart of that original dream.
